three suspects in -- police have three suspects in custody. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in vallejo where officials just announced the results of a long investigation. >> reporter: these arrests were part of an effort by chp, transportation agencies and local law enforcement. >> in case was an excellent example of law enforcement working together for our common goal of public safety. >> reporter: chp investigators through surveillance video and evidence were able to tie at least three of the ten robberies to three vallejo men. >> in the past 7 days, two of the suspects were arrested and a third is also in custody. he was already in custody on an unrelated matter. >> reporter: the suspects would wear masks making it difficult to identify them through video. one big clue in the case the cars used in the robberies were stolen and the three suspects were known car thieves. >> we knew who from past experience people stealing cars or problems in the past and surveillance was leading to names of people that were involved. >> reporter: the robbery started late year up until may of this year

'm elizabeth cook. >> i'm allen martin. it all started when vallejo police were called to the backyard of a warren avenue home. there they found the body of a man who had been dead quite a while. christin ayers tells us police say they uncovered a plot to cash in on that. >> reporter: deputies telling us the suspects in this case not only hid the death of a man but they robbed him blind for years afterwards. people in this vallejo neighborhood first noticed it coming from the backyard of this home on warren avenue. >> my sister had walked over there and got about to where the red car is. and she's like, wow, i mean, she could smell it from that far off. >> reporter: a smell to gruesome it could only have been one thing. the badly decompromised body of a person. romar, a drifter, had been dead for two years. authorities say his son, 22- year-old joseph romer, never told a soul. instead, he allegedly hid the body in a large box and stashed it here in a backyard. >> i can't believe somebody would even think about doing that. >> reporter: even worse, authorities say joseph romar and his gi
in the backyard of a home on warren avenue in vallejo. it was a badly decomposed body. richard romer of alameda died two years ago at the age of 56. investigators say romer's 22- year-old son joseph romer hit his father's body -- hid his father's body in a box and stashed it in a relative's backyard in vallejo. the body was found this month. >> my sister had walked over there and got about to where the red car is and she is like, wow! i mean, she could smell it from that far off. so that's a good, you know, 40, 50 feet away that she could smell it. >> the cause of romer's death is still under investigation but he had been sick. joseph romer and his girlfriend sandy are accused of hiding the body and cashing thousands of dollars of pension checks. >>> pg&e crews have now found the source of a gas leak in brentwood. a group of neighbors stayed awake all night though after reporting a gas smell at about 6:15 yesterday. people evacuated three houses that showed elevated gas readings on the 600 block of allbrook drive. the source of the leak remained a mystery for hours. then just after 3:00 this m
all the way back to vallejo through martinez, fairfield and the bay bridge were dry right now. a lot of water on the road but nothing new falling from the sky. just a few light showers basically hugging the south bay and union city and fremont and hayward. here's what's going on. it's a pretty significant weather system that stretches all the way from central canada down now to los angeles. what we're going to see we are going to see these areas of lower pressure move into the bay area over the next couple of days. we had one this morning. it was windy and wet. we'll get another one tonight windy and wet again. then a break tomorrow late in the day. sunday here comes another one of the the overall pattern is going to get locked in place with high pressure to our south and west, lower pressure to our north and west that's allowing all of these storms to sneak right in between the two into northern california so aside from christmas eve, there's a rain chance each of the next seven days. so tonight, we are getting a break now. rain will pick up after midnight tomorrow morning very wet.
